Artist Statement
After retiring, I was curious about painting with watercolor so I took a couple of college classes. It was not until I took a five day workshop from M. Douglas Walton of Ruston, Louisiana that my true creative spirit awakened. I will be forever thankful to Douglas for lighting that fire. When I paint I find it inspiring to try new things, just to see what happens. I enjoy letting the painting tell me what the next step should be. I paint with watercolor, acrylic, latex, oil, and create collage and mixed media works of art. The common thread that runs through my artwork is the use of bold color, texture, and a sense of mystery. Creating and conversing through my artwork excites my soul. I have been told that I am all over the place, and that I have so many styles of painting that my solo shows tend to look like they are group shows. Not the work of one artist. I guess I feel you paint who you are. I am all of those artists, and I think that is okay.
